Ryan, Megan, Alex, and Katie's New Mexico Itinerary
Saturday, November 8, 2014 - Tuesday, November 11, 2014
Howdy, everyone! Another week, another trip - and another couple states to add for Ms. Katie! This time around, we'll be flying into the town of Albuquerque. The last time we were here (2 years ago), we flew into Denver and drove south for Balloon Fiesta - on a day that was too windy to see any balloons go up. This time around, we're a month past the fiesta, so hopefully the crowds have left this town alone for the winter months, and we'll be able to check out some additional sights around town. Well, so long as everyone stays healthy. Katie has pink eye, Alex has a nasty cold (and possibly the start of an ear infection), Megan has a sore mouth after some major dental work, and I'm feeling like I might come down with all three... well, I guess not the mouth part. My mouth is awesome. OK, enough about that - let's go!
All times are local to the particular city. This trip will take place entirely in the Mountain Time Zone (2 hours behind Eastern).
You know the drill. If we have signal and feel like setting up the webcam, the pictures above will start changing.

Saturday, November 8
Another night without much sleep - but the good news is our flight isn't until noon! Hot dog! It's the only nonstop out of BWI to ABQ, so we'll end up getting on the road sometime in the 3:00 hour. Our first stop will be to the Sandia Peak Aerial Tramway , which we skipped last time due to a 2-hour wait. Hopefully things will be less crowded this time around. After taking in the sunset from the mountains, we'll make our way to our hotel, the Albuquerque Marriott . We've stayed here before - 2 years ago, in fact - and watched the Orioles win their wild card game against the Texas Rangers. Maybe we'll grab some pizza again and find something else cool to watch!
Sunday, November 9
It's Sunday morning in the big city! Today, we'll start off by heading to the 9am mass at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary . Just next door from that is Balloon Fiesta Park, where Albuquerque will be putting on the first "Peoples Festival and Matanza, Chile and Salsa Competition." Assuming it's as dull as it sounds, we'll check out the Anderson Abruzzo International Baloon Museum instead, which is free on Sundays. After that, we'll take the Turquoise Trail north, through the towns of Golden and Madrid before ending up in Santa Fe around lunchtime. And where else can we sample some amazing Southwest food than at Applebees ! After that, we'll keep heading north, all the way to Taos . We might stop by the local Ski Resort for another view from the mountains, but more likely, after this long of a drive, we'll just check into our hotel for the night - at another place we've stayed at before... with Alex... do we travel too much?
Monday, November 10
It's a workday for everyone except us. And what a better way to spend this marvelous Monday than in the car! I'm not sure what will become of today. Right now, we are scheduled to at least travel to the state line for Katie's obligatory picture. After that, who knows. Our map has us going to Aztec Ruins National Monument , but that's far away, and from what I hear, the buildings are kind of... ruined... Some way or another, though, we'll get back to Albuquerque for the night at another Marriott . I really wanted to stay at the number one Super 8 in the world (again), but Megan wasn't satisfied with the multi-colored towels and free soup last time, so I guess we'll skip it this time around...
Tuesday, November 11
It's Veterans Day, and the last day of our trip. We have the entire morning to ourselves, so we'll check out the New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science , which is just next door to some children's museum called Explora . And that's how we'll leave it. We need to be at the airport by around 1:30 to catch our flight back home, landing around 9 at night. And then it's back to work the next day... with three days left for Megan at her old job. Adios!
Where you at?? We are never 100% on time to our destinations, so we've taken all the guesswork out of figuring out where we are by broadcasting our GPS location. You'll need to manually refresh this page to see our latest movements, but so long as we get cell phone signal, you'll be able to see where we are!
And if that's not good enough, we've still got our guesstimated route highlighted below...
Just as before, these are some links where you might be able to track our flight. With all of these sites, be sure to hit refresh (F5) and click 'Retry' as applicable to view the latest information.
