The Family Alaskan Cruise Itinerary
Friday, June 5, 2009 - Wednesday, June 17, 2009

Welcome to yet another vacation! This one is extra special for a few reasons. In 2005, we set a goal for ourselves that we would visit every state in the USA. And now, less than 5 years later - June 2009, after many trips on Southwest and tens of thousands of miles driven, we are finally on our way to the 50th state on our list. This is Alaska!

It's also a special trip for us because, as you can see in the title, our family is joining us! Megan's parents (Betsy and Rich) and siblings (Colleen and Dave B) will be accompanying us from Connecticut. Ryan's parents (Darlene and Dave K), sister (Kelly), sister's boyfriend (Joe), and their friend (Chris) will also be joining us.

Now, onto travel details and the itinerary...
~Ryan and Megan

Cruising - Inside Passage
Cruising through the Inside Passage is really what has made Alaska cruising so popular. This trip captures so much of what people love about Alaska. There are glaciers the size of Rhode Island. Misty rain forests and ghostly blue fjords. And spirited communities that celebrate their varied heritage. Be sure to take in every view as you sail through one of the most beautiful parts of Alaska.

The highlight of any cruise through the Inside Passage has to be Hubbard Glacier. It is one of the most active glaciers in the area and a great place to experience the majesty of a glacier up close. Sheets of ice separate themselves from the ice field in a process known as "galloping." When the ice finally crashes into the sea, you can hear a loud cracking sound, similar to a starter pistol. This process is known as "calving," and the sound echoes for miles.

Much of the town's colorful past is still in evidence, especially in the nearby Indian villages, where you'll see colorfully carved totem poles and hear the fascinating legends that surround them.
