Ryan, Megan, and Alex's Charleston Itinerary
Saturday, February 23, 2013 - Monday, February 25, 2013
Howdy! This is it! This is Alex's last free flight. Starting on Wednesday, any future flights will be on the 'adult' itinerary. ::Sigh:: They grow up so fast! Anyhow, we decided to head on down to South Carolina for this adventure, and yes, we are taking a risk. After all, Alex has been in South Carolina twice before, and both times he threw up... Oh, and those are the only two times he's ever thrown up. Third time's a charm? I guess we'll just wait and see. One other interesting tidbit: This is our fourth planned trip to Charleston. When Southwest first started flying here, I grabbed one of their very first flights from BWI at an amazing deal. However, about 9 months after booking the flight, Mr. Alexander made his appearance into this world, so we had to cancel. We had a couple other trips booked, as well, including one over New Year's, but for one reason or another, we had to cancel. So, here we go again! Here's to a cancel- and vomit-free trip!
All times are local to the particular city. This trip will take place entirely in the Eastern Time Zone.

Another early flight without any sleep the night before! We'll be on the road in Charleston by 11:00am, and our first stop is outside of South Carolina - in Savannah, Georgia. We'll stop by the Fort Pulaski National Monument once Alex wakes up from his nap. From there, it'll probably be time for lunch before we head on down to Forsyth Park . The temperature of the high 60's would be wonderful for a stroll, but it's looking like things will be a bit wet. From there, we'll check out a bunch of old cemeteries , such as Bonaventure, Colonial Park, and Laurel Grove. After that, it's time to head to the island - Hilton Head Island, that is. We might get some dinner at the Bomboras Grille before checking into our hotel for the night.
Sunday, February 24
Good morning! Is that the sun trying to poke through the clouds? I hope so because that's the only opportunity we'll have to see it on this trip! After grabbing some breakfast at our hotel, we'll go to church, probably at St. Francis by the Sea at 9am. After that, we make our way back to Charleston . I'm really hoping the rain will hold off today because we've got a lot of outdoor plans, such as Charles Towne Landing, White Point Gardens, Calhoun Mansion, Heyward-Washington House, and Waterfront Park. If we didn't have time for church earlier in the day, we might go to St. Michael's Episcopal Church, which is where folks like George Washington enjoyed a service or two. After that, we'll check out Fort Sumter , which is only accessible via a boat. If all goes well, we should wrap that up just before dark, and then we'll make our long drive north to Myrtle Beach to spend the night in another waterfront hotel... perhaps in time to check out the Academy Awards!
Monday, February 25
Rain, rain, go away! If we do have a dry day, we'll get a late breakfast at the Steak n Shake in Myrtle Beach, followed by some mini golfing at Cancun Lagoon . If the rain returns, we'll just start making our way back to Charleston, stopping in Georgetown along the way. Once we get to Charleston, we'll probably grab some lunch at Applebee's, followed by all the stuff we didn't get to on Sunday, such as the Charles Pinckney National Historic Site , Mt Pleasant Memorial Waterfront Park, the South Carolina Aquarium, and the Audubon Swamp Garden . By then, it'll be time to fly home . Well, assuming that our flight is not cancelled due to heavy fog, which is to be expected after an all-day rain along the ocean...
Where you at?? We are never 100% on time to our destinations, so we've taken all the guesswork out of figuring out where we are by broadcasting our GPS location. You'll need to manually refresh this page to see our latest movements, but so long as we get cell phone signal, you'll be able to see where we are!
Megan's Location... Ryan's Location...
And if that's not good enough, we've still got our guesstimated route highlighted below...
