Ryan and Megan's Chicago Itinerary
Saturday, July 14, 2007 - Monday, July 16, 2007

Howdy, folks!  This trip seemed so far away, and now it's suddenly here!  We booked this trip back in early March because, once again, Southwest had a great deal to Chicago.  So, we booked it, not knowing whether or not we would actually go on the trip.  Now, since it's been almost a month since our last flight, we figured we might as well.  A couple months later, we noticed the same good deal from Hartford, so we booked flights for Megan's siblings.  Unfortunately, neither of them can come with us, but as of this writing, the flight hasn't been cancelled, so who knows what will happen!  Anyhow, we are taking off on Monday and making this a nice 3-day getaway, so here we go again.  But, hey, Chicago rocks!  Or is that Cleveland...
~ Ryan

All times are local to the particular city.  Illinois is in the Central Time Zone, which is 1 hour behind the East Coast.  But, we'll also be heading into Indiana, which is in Eastern Time.  Well, at least part of it is.  For those on the Atlantic, we've added your time in [brackets] so you don't need to do any math!

We have an early morning flight out from Baltimore on Saturday morning, so if we have not left the house by 5:30am, we can pretty much call it quits on this trip.  Notwithstanding that, we will be in Chicago by 8am, local time [1].  Chicago is a pretty fun city, but we aren't sure what we will be doing for the first half of the day.  There's always Millennium Park or the zoo or the Art Institute (again...).  In any event, we need to be down to Navy Pier [2] by noon to catch a lunch cruise on Lake Michigan with Mystic Blue.  It's a two-hour thing that's a lot of money, but hey, it's almost unique!  From there, our next stop should be Wrigley Field [3] to catch the Cubs play the Astros.  But who knew that they were rival teams and that the game would sell out months in advance.  So, we have no tickets.  We'll try our luck with a scalper and see what happens.  For dinner, Megan really wants to go to a Spanish restaurant.  Cafe Iberico, specifically because it was recommended by her BFF.  After that, we'll head on back down to Navy Pier to catch a nice fireworks display before driving an hour out of the city to our hotel in Indiana [4].

We'll actually be able to get a nice jump on the day today, assuming that we made it to our hotel early enough.  Our first stop will be back at Lake Michigan on the Indiana Dunes [5].  It's a national park, and since we still have a valid annual pass, we might as well make the most of it!  From there, we'll be off to Indianapolis [6].  Who knows what there is to do there.  Hopefully Megan will have some time during the 2 hour trip to read about stuff down there.  If nothing else, we can check out a winery, since there are plenty of those in Indiana.  From there, it's off to Illinois again, this time to stop in Springfield [7] for the night.

Time for work?  Never!  Today, we'll have the whole day to explore Illinois for all it's worth.  We'll start off in Springfield to see everything we can about Abraham Lincoln [8] (remember him?).  From there, it's another shot in the dark for what we'll actually be doing.  It'll be a surprise to everyone.  All we know is that we need to get back to Midway Airport [9] in Chicago by dinnertime.  We'll be back in Maryland late that night.  And that's the trip!

Don't have time to read all my nonsense?  I don't blame you.  Just check out the map below to see our guesstimated route.
