Ryan's Grapevine-Texas Itinerary
Sunday, May 31, 2015 - Thursday, June 4, 2015

Howdy! Well, here I go, off to Texas for a few days... by myself. I'm going to be attending a work-related conference, which happens to be held outside of the D.C. area for the first time since I started attending several years ago. Sadly, I'll need to leave Katie, Alex, and Megan behind this time around. However, the days are going to be jam-packed, basically from 7am until almost 8pm every day. The event is being held at the Gaylord hotel in Grapevine, Texas. There's not a whole lot around there, so I initially booked the hotel for every night of the trip. However, I was recently offered an opportunity to upgrade my elite status with Marriott, but it requires 9 "stays" (not nights) over the course of a few months. Since we don't travel much during the summer, I changed around the plans and will be doing a bit of hotel-hopping on this trip. A bit inconvenient, but hey, anything to enhance our loyalty status, eh? So, anyway, let's hope the roads have dried out a bit after weeks of flooding throughout Texas - 'cause here I come!

All times are local to the particular city. This trip will take place entirely in the Central Time Zone (1 hour behind Eastern).

Sunday, May 31 - Thursday, June 4 Find more about Weather in Dallas, TX

Since there's not a whole lot to this trip, I'll just summarize everything here.

  • Sunday: Arrive in Dallas around noon and pick up rental car. Drive around town and trying to avoid any floodwaters. Arrive at the hotel in the late afternoon to check in for the night.

  • Monday: This is a jam-packed day, starting with breakfast at 7:00am. Attend presentations until around 5:30, when I get dinner at a reception until 7pm.

  • Tuesday: Another jam-packed day, starting with breakfast at 7:30am. After a bunch of additional presentations, we rock out to "All 80's, All Night Long" from 6:00pm until 8:00pm. Since my hotel is elsewhere, I'll probably retire from the event earlier.

  • Wednesday: Another early morning, this time battling rush-hour traffic. The conference wraps up by the early afternoon, at which point I have the rest of the day free to catch up on the work I've missed over the past 3 days. The Orioles are in Texas this evening, but way out in Houston - 4 hours away. Unfortunately, I don't think this is an option...

  • Thursday: After getting breakfast at the hotel, I'll head to the airport, arriving in the 8:00am hour. Barring any flight delays, I should get home just about the same time as Megan, Alex, and Katie!

And if that's not good enough, we've still got our guesstimated route highlighted below...
