Ryan, Megan, Alex, and Katie's Jacksonville Itinerary
Saturday, February 14, 2015 - Tuesday, February 17, 2015

Howdy! It's getting cold again, so it's time to fly south! We booked this trip back in October, and at the time, we figured anywhere south of Maryland would be decently warm. So, we went ahead and planned out the entire trip. We would start out in Jacksonville and then head across the panhandle, then up to Atlanta, over to Charleston, and back down to Jacksonville. We booked the hotels and we were set - finally - months ahead of time! Then, this week we learned of a cold front coming down the east coast, bringing sub-freezing temperatures to Atlanta for Sunday. Granted, a high of 34 is better than the high of 15 back home, but it's still a bit colder than expected. So, at the last minute, we changed up the entire plan and decided to stick to Florida. It's still colder than normal, but a high in the low 60's isn't that bad. The one thing we couldn't change was Megan and Katie's flight. Yes, Megan and Katie are going home separate from Ryan and Alex. Since this is a holiday weekend, it was far too expensive to leave from any Florida airports to come home on Monday, and it's too expensive to return our car to a different airport than where we picked it up. Also, Megan doesn't have enough leave built up at her new job to take any time off. Thus, Megan and Katie will come home Monday evening from Charleston, and Ryan and Alex will return on Tuesday night from Jacksonville. Can Alex survive 24 hours in the care of his father - while in South Carolina? Only time will tell!

Saturday, February 14 Find more about Weather in Orlando, FL
Happy Valentine's Day! It's another semi-early flight down south, and we should be on the road by around noon [1]. Originally, we were going to make our way down the coast and make a few stops, but then we realized that we should make a reservation at a restaurant since everything will be packed. Sure enough, the earliest time we could get near our final destination of Orlando (yes, Orlando again - but no Mickey Mouse this time!) was around 3:00pm. Since it's almost 3 hours from Jacksonville to Orlando, we gotta hurry! We have two reservations pending: One at Buca Di Beppo at the Florida Mall in Orlando at 3:45, and the other is in our hotel - Citron, An American Brasserie at 3:00. We'll eat at one of the two, depending on when we get into town. For the rest of the day, we'll just chill at our now sold-out hotel [2].

Sunday, February 15 Find more about Weather in Daytona Beach, FL
Today is beach day. And go figure, it's the coldest day of the trip. Anyway, we'll make our way up the Atlantic Coast, stopping at Cocoa Beach [3], Merritt Island, Daytona Speedway [4], Fort Matanzas [5], Castillo de San Marcos [6], Fort Caroline [7], and St. Augustine. Most likely, we'll end the day in Jacksonville [8], although we don't actually have any hotels booked, yet. It's possible that we'll be really ambitious and drive all the way up to Hilton Head Island [10] for the evening. Who knows!

Monday, February 16 Find more about Weather in Charleston, SC
Who knows what will happen today! If we slept in Jacksonville [8], we'll start making our way further north around 9am, stopping at Fort Frederica [9] on the way. We will get to Charleston [11] in time for dinner and then see Megan and Katie off to the airport. Or, if we started in Hilton Head, we'll stick around our hotel until around 10am, and then check out the beach. The temperature will be in the 40s, so we won't stay out long. From there, we'll find something interesting to do in the Charleston area before taking Megan and Katie to the airport. Once it's assured that the flight will depart, Alex and Ryan will depart the Charleston area around 7pm and make their way back towards Jacksonville [12], possibly stopping in Savannah along the way.

Tuesday, February 17 Find more about Weather in Jacksonville, FL
It's just you and me, buddy! If Ryan and Alex survived the night, they will check out some sights in the Jacksonville area - it's all up to Alex. There is a chance of rain, so it's hard to say if we'll be at the beach or at some indoor place. Either way, it's daddy-son day! We have no real plans at this point. By around 5:30, we'll get to the airport [13] for our 7:30pm flight home to reunite with Megan and Katie!

And if that's not good enough, we've still got our guesstimated route highlighted below...
