Megan & Ryan's Kentucky to Missouri Itinerary
Saturday, September 22, 2012 - Monday, September 24, 2012

Howdy! It's been almost 3 years to the day since we've been to Louisville, Kentucky, so it's about time we returned! The last time we flew out, Senator Mitch McConnell sat a row in front of us, and with Congress going on recess this week, he might just join us again! In any event, unlike last time, we won't be spending much time in the bluegrass state. Instead, we'll be headed west, to the Mississippi River and St. Louis. Between that and our return trek through Indianapolis, Alex will be adding 3 states to his "been there" list - even if he won't remember any of it. The weather should be awesome, so let's go!
~ Ryan

All times are local to the particular city. This trip will be a little in Eastern and a little in Central time zone. We're confused already!

Emergency Contact Information:
Phone (Ryan's Cell): 410-259-4180
E-mail: (will be checked as often as possible)

Once again, we will be bringing a webcam along with us for the ride. (Although, we have been having internet issues lately.) Whenever we can, we will try to pump new images to this page every 20 seconds - no need to open a new window or refresh! If the picture doesn't update, then we have the webcam off. Just check back later.

Today starts with a later-than-normal flight out of Baltimore. We won't be in our rental car until after 1:30 in the afternoon {1}. However, as soon as we find a good place to get a picture of Alex by the Kentucky state sign [2] (and possibly get some lunch), we'll start our journey westward. It took some time to decide exactly how to get to St. Louis - whether it was worth the straight 5-hour drive, or if we should make some stops along the way. Assuming that Alex will take a nap for a while here, we're just going to go for it. We should be in St. Louis around sunset, but we might be able to have enough time to walk around the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial (Gateway Arch) [3, 4]. From there, it's off to our hotel for the night, just south of the city [5].

Today is all about St. Louis! We'll start off with morning mass, just a couple blocks from our hotel [6], and then we'll check out the Ulysses S. Grant National Historic Site [7]. From there, it's off to the zoo [8]! We'll hang out there for a couple hours before heading to the Magic House [9] - a Children's Museum (my, how our destinations have changed!). We'll grab some lunch (likely at Applebees [10]) before making our way back east - when hopefully we'll have sufficiently worn out Alex for another long nap in the car. We'll cross the state line into Indiana [11], fight football game-day traffic, and eventually get to our hotel - the JW Marriott [12]. With all of our Marriott stays this year, we've been promoted to "Gold" elite status, so we might just get a room upgrade out of this!

Given that our hotel is in the middle of the city, we'll take advantage of our location in the morning by walking to a few destinations, like the Indiana State Capitol [13]. From there, we'll start our tour of visiting dead people [14], starting with Ryan White (remember him?). So we don't get too depressed, we'll lighten the mood by stopping by the offices [15] of Megan's Indiana-based colleagues. After that, we'll check out another grave - that of Nancy Barnett [16]. You probably don't know her, but she's got a plot all to herself (check out this link). A bit further down the road, we'll check out a big rocking chair [17], and then make our way back to Louisville [18] to check out more dead people: Colonel Sanders [19] and Zachary Taylor [20]. Why? Because that's what we do! If we are still good on time, we'll grab dinner and hop aboard our flight home [21].

Where you at?? We are never 100% on time to our destinations, so we've taken all the guesswork out of figuring out where we are by broadcasting our GPS location, courtesy of Per their rules, you'll need to manually refresh this page to see our latest movements, but so long as we get cell phone signal, you'll be able to see where we are!

But first, this is our guesstimated route...

And this is our current location...

Just as before, these are some links where you might be able to track our flight. With all of these sites, be sure to hit refresh (F5) and click 'Retry' as applicable to view the latest information.
