Ryan and Megan's Long Island Itinerary
Saturday, September 12, 2009 - Monday, September 14, 2009
Howdy, folks! It's been a full two days since we were last on a Southwest Airlines
flight, so I reckon it's time for another trip! And where are we going? All the way up to... Long Island.
Yes, it's pretty much driving distance, but when SWA offers flights as low as 30 bucks each way, it's hard
to turn it down. So, rather than deal with the wretched New Jersey turnpike, we're taking a shortcut over
the Atlantic. There's not a whole lot to this trip, but it's the first of many new places we'll be going
this fall. Check out the details below, and we'll see you down the road!
All times are local to
the particular city. All of our travel will be in the Eastern Time Zone, so there is no difference
for most of our friends and family who may be stalking us.
Emergency Contact Information:

Phone (Megan's Cell):
(will be checked as often as possible)
Once again, we will be bringing a webcam along with us for the ride. Signal will be sporadic and
reliant upon good power to the laptop, but whenever we can, we will try to pump new images to this page
every 20 seconds - no need to open a new window or refresh!
If the picture doesn't update, then we are out of signal. Just check back later.

Saturday, September 12
We start off today with a semi-early flight of 8:55am. We would have liked to have kicked this trip off a bit earlier, but it's better than some of our other upcoming trips. We'll be landing on New York's Long Island around 10am at an airport that's only served by a couple commercial airliners. Once we grab our rental car, our first stop is the beach . It'll be cloudy and rainy, but we'll spend most of the afternoon traversing the southwestern coast of the island until we get to Coney Island . We'll spend a couple hours there before making our way to southern Manhattan - for no other reason than to cross the Brooklyn Bridge... and perhaps to check out the naked people at The Standard hotel (do a Google News search, and you'll see what I mean). From there, we're off to Belmont Park , the home of the final leg of the Triple Crown in horseracing. It'll be getting dark at this point, but we'll try to squeeze in a brief trip to Bethpage Golf Course before running back to our hotel for the night.
Sunday, September 13
After a restful night's sleep, we're off to the beach again. This time, we're headed to Sunken Meadow State Park on the Long Island Sound. After that quick visit, we've got the longest non-stop driving portion of the trip out to North Fork , a quiet little area where we can do some wine tasting. After sobering up, it's off to Orient Beach , Sag Harbor , and Montauk - basically the entire Hamptons area. From there, it's one more trip to the beach in Westhampton before heading back to our same hotel. Guess we aren't covering as much area as normal, huh? Guess we are getting old...
Monday, September 14
Not much to say about today . We're getting up VERY early in the morning to catch a VERY early flight back home. We land 5 minutes before it's time to report to work, so I have a feeling we'll be late. And sure enough, that's the plan for the day - work! And sure enough, that's the end of the trip. Really, it is.
Don't have time to read all the nonsense above? I don't blame you. Just check out the map below to see our guesstimated route.
