Ryan and Megan's Michigan Itinerary
Saturday, May 5, 2007 - Sunday, May 6, 2007
Howdy, folks! Two weeks have passed without a
trip. I reckon that means it's time to take another! And
what do you know? It's Cinco de Mayo! And what a better way
to celebrate Mexican history than by traveling up towards Canada!
This time we are headed out to the charming city of Detroit. Not
exactly paradise, but there was a good deal for the flight back in
January, and we decided to go for it. So, what's on the agenda?
You're guess is as good as mine. We booked a hotel in Grand Rapids
five months ago, but planning? Ha! We don't need no stinkin'
planning! That means you can take our itinerary with a grain of
salt. But it's just for two days. We'll see what happens!
All times are local to
the particular city. The entire trip is in Eastern Standard Time.
No math required to figure out our time!

We have a morning flight out of BWI, but we won't be leaving DTW
until around 10:30, which is really going to cut into our day.
Even still, there is a lot of stuff that we could do. There's The
Henry Ford museum , which is more than just the history of Megan's
Ford Focus. It's got everything from Rosa Park's bus, to the limo
that John F. Kennedy was shot in! Then, we'll head to New
Baltimore to see if it really is new and improved. Betcha they
don't have the Inner Harbor! Then, we'll head on up to the
southernmost point of Lake Huron before heading across the border to
celebrate Cinco de Mayo. Okay, so it may not be the right border,
but we'll be heading out of the United States, nonetheless. That
is, if we remember our passports. We'll check out some of the
places in Chatham and Pelee Point , Ontario. By then, it
will be dinnertime, and we'll have to visit our sponsor, Applebee's
- this time in Canada! We will be able to see the sun set over
Detroit from across the river , and eventually make our way back into
the States to drive a couple hours west to Grand Rapids , where we
will be spending the night.
Sunday, May 6:
Sunday is going to be very unpredictable. The route on our
planning map will give us only about 3 hours of "free" time, which is
cutting it a little close when you are driving several hundred miles and
need to catch a flight on time. Nonetheless, the Gerald Ford
museum is out here, and three hours north of that is Sleeping Bear
Dunes National Park . That's just an excuse to get our money's
worth from our annual national park pass. Whatever we do, we need
to get back to Detroit's metro airport by 6:30pm to catch our
flight back home.
Don't have time to read
all my nonsense? I don't blame you. Just check out the map
below to see our guesstimated route.
