Ryan and Megan's Michigan Itinerary
Saturday, October 2, 2010 - Monday, October 4, 2010
Howdy, folks! Well, as the late Michael Jackson would say, This Is It! This is our last official long-distance trip as a married couple without kids. So, where in the world should we go? How about Michigan! Yes, we've been to the state a couple times, but this time, we're heading north. In fact, the majority of this trip will be driving to the upper penninsula of the state. The reason is two-fold: we've never been to the upper part of Michigan, and we've never seen Lake Superior. Oh, boy! And that's about it. We're getting there late on a Saturday and leaving before the sun rises on Monday. I'm not sure what we'll be doing because I booked our hotels about 10 hours before our flight, so it'll just be one last crazy adventure! That is, before the new crazy adventures of the new Kennedy family begin next year...
All times are local to the particular city. All of this trip will take place in the Eastern Time Zone.

Although we brough along our usual webcams, we forgot to bring a car charger, so we won't be able to pump new images to the screen this time around. Sorry, folks!

Saturday, October 2
Usually we would be posting a time-specific itinerary here, but the truth is, we didn't plan this until the very last minute - and some of it still isn't planned. So, we're back to the old-school version of writing this up. Today, we'll be checking out some of the museums around Detroit, including the Detroit Institute of Art
and Motown Museum
. We might drive by some of the Automaker's Mansions
, such as the once-home of Henry Ford (Ryan's hero). The Holocaust Memorial Center
would have been interesting, but for some reason they are closed on Saturdays! From there, we'll go north to our hotel for a midnight arrival.
Sunday, October 3
Today will be our tour of Michigan's upper penninsula. But first, we're heading to Canada - for no other reason than we can - and to get our pre-born kid to visit their third country (sorta). From there, we're off to see the Soo Locks, Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, and the Shipwreck Coast. From there, we will head back towards Detroit, while stopping by Mackinac Island, and Little Traverse Bay. If we have time, we'll go to Frederik Meijer Gardens in Grand Rapids, but most likely, we'll just go straight to our hotel.
Monday, October 4
Nothin' but flying! Our hotel is right next to the airport, and we've got an early morning flight because we have work today! And that's all, folks!
Where you at?? We are never 100% on time to our destinations, so we've taken all the guesswork out of figuring out where we are by broadcasting our GPS location, courtesy of InstaMapper.com. Per their rules, you'll need to manually refresh this page to see our latest movements, but so long as we get cell phone signal, you'll be able to see where we are!
And if that's not good enough, we've still got our guesimated route highlighted below...
Just as before, these are some links where you might be able to track our flight. With all of these sites, be sure to hit refresh (F5) and click 'Retry' as applicable to view the latest information.
