Ryan's San Diego Itinerary
Saturday, September 24, 2016 - Wednesday, September 28, 2016

Howdy! ... Aaalllll byyy myy seeeellfff - don't wanna be, alll byy myyselff, anymore! But, alas, here I am - headed all the way out to California for half a week for work. Amazingly, for the second time this year, I've been selected to present at a national conference (check it out here)! This will be my first time presenting alone, but the good news is, no one from my office will be there to watch me fail! For lodging, I'll be doing my normal hotel-hopping across the city, although it was quite a struggle trying to determine which hotels would be the best fit. Ultimately, I decided to forego a car and keep everything within walking distance, even though that meant giving up some choice "resort"-style hotels. Since I'm flying to the other side of the county, I won't have much time to myself, anyway. It'll be a busy 5 days - and then it'll be time to take a family trip just 2 days after my return! The fun never ends! Let's go!

Today starts with a morning nonstop flight to San Diego! Although I won't land until after 1 in the afternoon back home, SoCal will just be waking up on a weekend morning. Since I've elected to not rent a car this time around, I'll be making heavy use of my public transportation options. Most likely, I'll start the day by taking the trolly down to my hotel to check in. From there, I'll hop across the bay via ferry to Coronado Island. Since I've never spent much time there before, I'll likely be on the island for most of the morning and afternoon. If time allows, I'll take the train up the coast as far as Oceanside. Or, I might go out to Mission Valley to catch a movie (I haven't done that in YEARS!). Or, I might just hang out around the pool at the hotel - or just sleep. It's almost a full day of free time, and I really don't know what to do with myself!

And, back to reality. Today, the conference starts (yes, a Sunday), so I'll be spending most of the time in the San Diego convention center. Things are expected to wrap up around 6pm, and I'll walk across the street to my hotel.

Another full day of conferencing. Tonight, we have an evening reception at Petco Park, which should be pretty awesome! Things wrap up around 7pm, and then I need to take the trolly to my next hotel quickly, as I have an early morning tomorrow!

Tuesday, September 27 Find more about Weather in San Diego, CA

Today is the day of reckoning. I have to deliver my solo presentation at 9am today - the earliest education session of the conference, on the last day of the conference, and the morning after the evening reception. I'll be lucky if I have 10 people in the audience! After I sweat through that, there are a few more conference activities before the day wraps around 4pm. I might grab some dinner and then hang out at Balboa Park. At the time of this writing, my hotel is back to where I stayed the first night. If I can get a cooler, closer hotel, I might just switch, but most likely, I'll just sleep here.

Wednesday, September 28 Find more about Weather in San Diego, CA

That's about all, folks! I'll likely be heading back to the airport by around 10am, so I won't have time to do anything fun today. I have a long nonstop flight home, although since the flight is sold out and I'm travelling solo, I will be the first to volunteer to get bumped, should the flight be oversold. That means I'll either have to fly home the next day, or take a longer flight home with layovers. But it'll be worth it if I get a few hundred dollars in my pocket! Either way, this should wrap up my time in California this year - until next time!

And if that's not good enough, we've still got our guesstimated route highlighted below...
