Ryan and Megan's Southern California Itinerary
Thursday, May 21, 2009 - Tuesday, May 26, 2009
Hi there! Typical Ryan-and-Megan style, we're taking a trip to Southern California only 2 weeks before our Alaskan cruise! It's okay though, we're used to squeezing in trips when we really don't have time. After all, we drove to Canada the weekend before our wedding, so I think we'll be okay this time too. The good thing about California is that there is always lots to do - check out our plans below for this long, holiday weekend!
All times are local to
the particular city. The entire trip is in Pacific Time, which is 3 hours behind Eastern Time. If you cannot do that math, we've added Eastern Time in [brackets].
Emergency Contact Information:
Phone (Ryan's Cell):
Phone (Megan's Cell):
(will be checked as often as possible)
Once again, we will be bringing a webcam along with us for the ride. Signal will be sporadic and
reliant upon good power to the laptop, but whenever we can, we will try to pump new images to this page
every 20 seconds - no need to open a new window or refresh!
If the picture doesn't update, then we are out of signal. Just check back later.

Thursday, May 21
After a long week at work, we land in San Diego fairly late. The plan is to head straight to hotel and go to sleep. Fortunately, the hotel is only about 15 minutes from the airport!
Friday, May 22
Our first stop of the day will be Coronado Cays Park, which is just a six-acre field. Why are we stopping here? I'm not sure; Ryan planned the trip! The next stop is the Hotel del Coronado, which is a really nice hotel that I stayed at while on a business trip a few years ago. Next we're quickly driving by SeaWorld before stopping at the San Diego Zoo . Since this is a pretty famous zoo, we'll spend a couple of hours looking at all the animals. After we're done, we plan to head out to Palm Springs. From there, we will end the day at Joshua Tree National Park before heading to the hotel .
Saturday, May 23
After getting an early start, our first stop for the day is in Sequoia National Park and Kings Canyon National Park . Hopefully the roads will not be closed due to snow! We'll spend about half of the day exploring the parks before heading west towards the coast. Our next stop is Pebble Beach, which has some famous golf courses (oh boy) and multimillion-dollar mansions. We'll either be there or in Carmel to watch the sunset over the ocean before heading to the hotel .
Sunday, May 24
As the sun is rising, we'll be headed to Big Sur, which is where the Santa Lucia Mountains rise abruptly from the Pacific Ocean. After spending a little bit of time, we are going to continue driving down to the coast. We'll make another stop at Hearst Castle and possibly take a tour. Reservations are recommended and we don't think we're going to make them, so we'll have to see how crowded it is. After that, we'll be driving through Morro Bay, San Luis Obispo, and Santa Ynez. We'll then be driving past Mission Santa Barbara and Ojai, before making a stop at the Channel Islands National Park Visitor Center. We don't have time to actually go to the Channel Islands, but we can pretend. The next two stops are Point Dume State Beach and Santa Monica State Beach. We will then arrive at our really cool hotel - the Queen Mary - yes, a ship!
Monday, May 25
First thing in the morning, after waking up in the ship, we'll be swinging by the Getty Center and the Beverly Hills Hotel. We'll then make our way to Universal Studios Hollywood, where we'll probably spend a few hours. We'll definitely be getting lunch at Buca di Beppo in CityWalk - we first ate there coming back from Australia back in 2003. The afternoon will be spent driving through Pasadena and heading to Disneyland . Depending on how much time we spent in Universal, we may also spend a few hours at Disney. We'll then end the day at our hotel .
Tuesday, May 25
Since today is our travel day, we won't be doing a lot whole. The first stop is Legoland. We'll then go to La Jolla before heading to the airport .
Don't have time to read all the nonsense above? I don't blame you. Just check out the map below to see our guesstimated route.
